Every circuit.
Every breaker.
Labelled properly.

Circuit breaker labels — also called circuit ID labels or circuit identification labels — are engraved switchboard tags that identify each breaker, RCD, isolator, and main switch. Permanent circuit identification is a mandatory safety requirement under AS/NZS 3000 clause 2.8.
Engraved circuit breaker labels, circuit ID tags, RCD test plates, main switch identification, and multiple-supplies warnings. Permanent traffolyte that meets AS/NZS 3000 and stays legible for the life of the switchboard.

Common circuit labels

Trade names, same job
Circuit ID, tombstones & legends.
Different sparkies use different words for labelling a board. Here is what each one means.
Tombstone labels
Older switchboards often carry an arch-shaped label above the breaker — a square base with a rounded top, sometimes called a tombstone label because of the shape. Tombstone is a built-in shape option in the Label Designer, so a replacement matches the original with instant pricing, not a custom job.

Switchboard legends
A switchboard legend is the circuit schedule for the board — the record of which breaker feeds what. Most boards still carry a handwritten or printed card taped inside the door, and paper fades, tears, or goes missing.
Engraved circuit ID labels on every breaker turn that record into something permanent and fitted to the board itself. Plan the full schedule with the Switchboard Schedule Builder and order the set through Switchboard Labels.
Compliance
Built to AS/NZS 3000.
AS/NZS 3000 clause 2.8 requires switchboard labels to be permanent, legible for the life of the installation, and clearly identify each circuit and the equipment it supplies. Engraved traffolyte ticks every box.
RBZ 3D engraves custom circuit breaker labels to order in Townsville, Queensland — designed online with instant per-label pricing, engraved by a licensed electrician within 1–3 business days, with no minimum order and tracked shipping Australia-wide.
Permanent text
Engraving is the structure of the label, not a print on top. Nothing to fade, peel, or rub off — meets the indelibility requirement.
Heat resistant
Comfortable inside a switchboard during a Townsville summer. No softening or distortion at electrical operating temperatures.
UV stable
Outdoor switchboards, solar combiner boxes, sun-exposed cabinet doors — colours and contrast hold for 20+ years.
Inspector-accepted
The Australian electrical trade has used engraved traffolyte for decades. Every inspector knows it. Anything else raises questions.
Design online
One label or a full board.
The Label Designer covers single labels and small batches. The Switchboard Schedule Builder lets you lay out the full board, then order every label in one click.

Solar and battery — the one place testing is required
Solar goes further than AS/NZS 3000. The Clean Energy Council’s Advice on Labelling (Version 2, June 2023) requires any label exposed to direct sunlight to be UV resistant, demonstrated by passing IEC 60068-2-5:2018 — a 720-hour accelerated weathering test.
Section 3.1.1 of that document carries an exception: it does not apply to markings that are physically engraved, embossed or etched with durable markings. Engraving is exempt because the marking is the material — there is no printed surface to fade.
The practical difference: a printed or vinyl label in direct sun needs that test report to show it meets the requirement. An engraved one doesn’t. If your supplier can’t produce the report, you can’t demonstrate the label complies.
Read the full breakdown → CER photo evidence and the CEC labelling guideWhat we will not tell you
- ·That the material is “certified” or “approved”. There is no certification scheme for engraving laminate and no inspector approval scheme for labels. A supplier using those words is selling you a word.
- ·That a label makes an installation compliant. Compliance is the installation, the documentation and the person who signed it — a label is one durable part of that.
- ·What your board should say. Josh holds an electrical licence and is happy to talk it through, but the wording call belongs to whoever is responsible for the job.
Common questions
Quick answers.
What size are standard circuit breaker labels?
The most common size is around 12–15mm high and 40–60mm wide to fit above or below a standard circuit breaker. The Label Designer accepts any custom dimension — we cut to your exact spec.
Are the labels compliant with AS/NZS 3000?
Yes. Engraved traffolyte meets the durability and legibility requirements for switchboard labelling under AS/NZS 3000 clause 2.8. The engraved text is permanent and won't fade for the life of the installation.
Can I order labels for a full switchboard?
Yes. Use the Bulk Orders tool to enter multiple different labels at once, or use the Switchboard Schedule Builder in Sparky Tools to plan your board and order all labels in one go.
What colours should I use for which circuits?
White-on-black for general circuit ID. White-on-red for main switches and danger warnings. Black-on-yellow for multiple-supplies warnings and solar PV. We carry the full range of standard combinations.
Do you make RCD test reminder labels?
Yes — RCD test reminders, test-frequency labels, and last-test-date plates. AS/NZS 3760 sets different test intervals for residential, commercial, and industrial environments.
How long does delivery take to my state?
Engraved in Townsville and dispatched same week with tracked shipping. Most metro deliveries land in 2–4 business days; regional QLD next day.
What are circuit ID labels?
Circuit ID labels are the small engraved tags fitted above or below each breaker — lights, power, hot water, A/C — that identify what the circuit controls. Most sparkies use circuit ID label, circuit breaker label, and circuit label interchangeably for the same product.
What is a tombstone label?
Tombstone label is the trade nickname for an arch-shaped label — a square base with a rounded top — seen on older switchboards. Tombstone is a shape option in the Label Designer, so a replacement set matches the original.
What is a switchboard legend?
A switchboard legend is the circuit schedule for the board — the record of which breaker feeds what. It is traditionally a paper card taped inside the door. Engraving each circuit ID label makes that record permanent and part of the board itself.
Is a circuit identification label the same as a circuit breaker label?
Yes. Circuit identification labels, circuit ID labels, circuit breaker labels, and circuit labels all describe the same physical product — an engraved tag identifying one circuit at the switchboard. AS/NZS 3000 clause 2.8 requires it regardless of what you call it.
