- Material
- Two-layer engraving laminate (traffolyte) — a colour cap bonded to a contrasting core. Engraved, not printed: the text is cut through the cap so the core shows through.
- Thickness
- 1.6 mm is the standard stock and the default on every order. 0.8 mm is used where a thin label has to sit under an escutcheon or in a shallow rebate. Thicker stock for rigid signs and plates on request.
- Fixing
- Self-adhesive backing, drilled mounting holes to your hole centres, or slotted holes for cable ties and tie wire. Specify per line — mixed fixings across one order are fine.
- Colour range
- Black/white, white/black, red/white, yellow/black, blue/white and green/white held as everyday stock. Further colours and brushed metal-look laminates are special order.
- Size and shape
- Cut to your dimensions — small circuit IDs through to full-sheet door signs (sheet stock is 600 × 300 mm). Rectangle, radiused corner, circle, oval and tombstone profiles, plus engraved cutouts for selector and pushbutton plates.
- Durability
- UV stable, heat resistant, chemically resistant and electrically non-conductive. Nothing to fade, peel or lift, because there is no ink and no printed film — the contrast is the material itself.
- Artwork accepted
- Typed text, a circuit schedule, a CSV or spreadsheet, a photo of the existing board, or a drawing/layout file. Existing labels can be matched for size, text, layout and colour.
- Order size
- One label to a full manufacturing run. No minimum, no setup fee, no artwork charge. Per-unit cost falls with quantity.
Standards framing
Straight about what a label can claim.
AS/NZS 3000 clause 2.8 asks that switchboard labelling be permanent, legible for the life of the installation, and clear about which circuit and equipment each label identifies. Engraved traffolyte meets the durability and permanence requirements of that clause, because the text is cut into the material rather than printed onto it — there is no ink to fade and no film to lift.
Everything here is engraved to suit AS/NZS 3000 identification requirements and to the AS 1319 colour conventions the trade already reads at a glance. What the label says is a design decision for the licensed person doing the work — we supply the labels, not the compliance judgement.
Solar and battery — the one place testing is required
Solar goes further than AS/NZS 3000. The Clean Energy Council’s Advice on Labelling (Version 2, June 2023) requires any label exposed to direct sunlight to be UV resistant, demonstrated by passing IEC 60068-2-5:2018 — a 720-hour accelerated weathering test.
Section 3.1.1 of that document carries an exception: it does not apply to markings that are physically engraved, embossed or etched with durable markings. Engraving is exempt because the marking is the material — there is no printed surface to fade.
The practical difference: a printed or vinyl label in direct sun needs that test report to show it meets the requirement. An engraved one doesn’t. If your supplier can’t produce the report, you can’t demonstrate the label complies.

- ·That the material is “certified” or “approved”. There is no certification scheme for engraving laminate and no inspector approval scheme for labels. A supplier using those words is selling you a word.
- ·That a label makes an installation compliant. Compliance is the installation, the documentation and the person who signed it — a label is one durable part of that.
- ·What your board should say. Josh holds an electrical licence and is happy to talk it through, but the wording call belongs to whoever is responsible for the job.

Can you do repeat OEM runs to the same specification?
Yes. Artwork stays on file against your account, so a repeat run is a reorder rather than a fresh setup — same size, same font, same layout, same engraving depth as the previous batch. It is the same laser and the same operator every time, which is the practical reason batches match.
Do you offer 30-day accounts?
Yes. Trade and commercial accounts can be set up on 30-day terms — order through the site or by email, invoiced and paid against statement. Apply through the wholesale application; approval is usually back within 24 hours.
Can you match our naming convention?
Yes. Send the schedule exactly as your business writes it — abbreviations, prefixes, board codes, circuit numbering, whatever the convention is — and it gets engraved as written. Nothing is normalised or 'tidied up' without asking you first, because a renamed circuit is worse than an unlabelled one.
What's your minimum order?
There is no minimum. One label is a valid order, and so is a run of several hundred. There is no setup fee and no artwork charge either — per-unit cost simply drops as quantity goes up.
How long does supply take?
Production is 1–3 business days once the artwork is confirmed, then postage on top. Australia Post and StarTrack transit times are indicative rather than guaranteed — StarTrack Premium is the most consistent lane, but no carrier guarantees a delivery date. If a job has a fixed site date, say so when you order and Josh will tell you honestly whether it is achievable.
Can you supply against a purchase order?
Yes. Quote out, PO in, supply against it, invoice referencing your PO number. If your procurement system needs particular reference fields on the invoice, tell us what they are and they will be on it.
Can you replace labels on equipment we didn't buy from you?
Yes, and it is a large part of the work. Send photos of the damaged or faded originals — size, text, layout, font and colour get matched so the replacement drops into the same spot. Useful on legacy plant where the original drawings are long gone.
Who actually makes the labels?
Josh — a licensed electrician running one CO2 laser in Townsville, Queensland. Nothing is outsourced and nothing is drop-shipped. That means a single point of contact who understands what the label is for, and it also means being straight with you about lead time when the queue is full.
Do you supply outside Queensland?
Yes — everything ships Australia-wide with tracking, from single labels to full manufacturing runs. Townsville and North Queensland are simply the closest to the workshop, not the limit of it.
