Board work in Rockhampton

Processing plant switchrooms, pump and irrigation boards, and CQ commercial.

Rockhampton's board labelling is dominated by washdown environments. Beef processing and cold-chain switchrooms get cleaned with caustics at a pressure that removes printed labels and, eventually, the adhesive under them. Engraved identification is the standard answer because the contrast is the material — there is no printed layer for the wash to attack.

Outside the plants it is agricultural and municipal infrastructure: pump control boards, irrigation and feedlot distribution, and bore and pivot boards spread across Central Queensland where a mislabelled circuit costs a drive rather than a walk. Same-state freight puts a board set in Rockhampton 1–2 business days after dispatch.

What customers are saying

As soon as I had put my order in, Josh was on the phone to me to adjust a few things to make sure it was 100% right. Couldn’t ask for better service and transparency from designing all the way to picking up the labels.

Hi recently had solar panels installed, but the installer did a messy job on my switchboard. The moved all the switches around, but didn't move any of the existing labels, and the new labels were just label maker and the terminology was non complaint (failed and Office of the Technical Regulator audit). I took it on myself to get professionally laser cut labels to replace the dodgy label maker/hand written and non-compliant language. RBZ3D was easy to use to make all the labels I need, shipped quick enough, and now the labels look so much better. Would definitely recommend and use again.

On the escutcheon

The boards we label in Rockhampton.

Every set is engraved to your schedule and sorted so it can be fitted in order — one board or a whole site.

Processing plant switchrooms

Line, chiller, and pump circuit identification for beef processing and cold-chain switchrooms — engraved text is unaffected by the caustic washdown that destroys printed labels.

Pump & irrigation control boards

Bore, pivot, and pump circuit identification for boards sitting out in the paddock, where the label has to still be readable the next season.

Workshop & fabrication boards

Machine circuit identification, isolator labels, and board ID tags for Rockhampton engineering and fabrication workshops.

Mining services site boards

Distribution board and workshop board identification for mine-services contractors working the Bowen Basin fringe out of Rockhampton and Gracemere.

Commercial DB schedules

Circuit schedules, main switch labels, and RCD identification for Rockhampton and Yeppoon commercial boards.

Standards framing

Straight about what a label can claim.

AS/NZS 3000 clause 2.8 asks that switchboard labelling be permanent, legible for the life of the installation, and clear about which circuit and equipment each label identifies. Engraved traffolyte meets the durability and permanence requirements of that clause, because the text is cut into the material rather than printed onto it — there is no ink to fade and no film to lift.

Solar and battery — the one place testing is required

Solar goes further than AS/NZS 3000. The Clean Energy Council’s Advice on Labelling (Version 2, June 2023) requires any label exposed to direct sunlight to be UV resistant, demonstrated by passing IEC 60068-2-5:2018 — a 720-hour accelerated weathering test.

Section 3.1.1 of that document carries an exception: it does not apply to markings that are physically engraved, embossed or etched with durable markings. Engraving is exempt because the marking is the material — there is no printed surface to fade.

The practical difference: a printed or vinyl label in direct sun needs that test report to show it meets the requirement. An engraved one doesn’t. If your supplier can’t produce the report, you can’t demonstrate the label complies.

What we will not tell you

  • ·That the material is “certified” or “approved”. There is no certification scheme for engraving laminate and no inspector approval scheme for labels. A supplier using those words is selling you a word.
  • ·That a label makes an installation compliant. Compliance is the installation, the documentation and the person who signed it — a label is one durable part of that.
  • ·What your board should say. Josh holds an electrical licence and is happy to talk it through, but the wording call belongs to whoever is responsible for the job.

Common questions

Quick answers.

Do engraved board labels survive processing plant washdown?

Yes — that is the main reason plant switchrooms move to engraved identification. The text is cut into a two-layer laminate, so the contrast is structural rather than printed. Caustic cleaning and high-pressure washdown can dull the surface without ever taking the text off.

Can you label pump, bore, and pivot control boards?

Yes. Bore pump, pivot, and generator changeover circuit labels for rural distribution boards are regular work — send the circuit list, or a photo of the board with the breakers visible, and the set comes back sized to fit the existing escutcheon.

What does AS/NZS 3000 require on a Rockhampton switchboard?

Clause 2.8 of the Wiring Rules deals with identification: switchboard labelling has to be permanent, legible for the life of the installation, and clear about which circuit or equipment each label refers to. Engraved traffolyte satisfies all three by construction — the text is cut into the material rather than printed onto it, so there is nothing to fade, peel, or rub away.

How do I send a whole board schedule?

Use the bulk tool in the Label Designer — one row per label, paste or type the schedule, and every label is priced as you go. If you would rather not type it, send a photo of the board or a copy of the schedule through Quick Quote and it comes back priced within one business day.

Who makes them, and where?

Josh, a licensed electrician, on one CO2 laser in Townsville, Queensland. Every Rockhampton order is engraved to order here, checked, and shipped tracked — no outsourcing, no reselling somebody else's labels.
