As soon as I had put my order in, Josh was on the phone to me to adjust a few things to make sure it was 100% right. Couldn’t ask for better service and transparency from designing all the way to picking up the labels.

Hobart trades we serve

Built for Hobart work.

Aquaculture

Valve tags, pump IDs, and equipment labels for salmon farms and hatcheries — engraved traffolyte survives salt water, washdown chemicals, and constant handling.

Marine & Antarctic fleet

Salt-air-proof engraved labels for vessel refits, port services, and research fleet support — UV-stable laminate that outlasts vinyl at sea.

Breweries & distilleries

Tank IDs, valve tags, and line labels that shrug off caustic cleaning and cellar humidity — engraved text cannot fade or peel off.

Hydro & renewables

Asset plates, isolation point IDs, and switchyard labels built to outlast weather and handling on remote long-life infrastructure.

Commercial electricians

Switchboard schedules, main switch and RCD labels, and emergency signage for Hobart commercial projects and building services.

Standards framing

Straight about what a label can claim.

AS/NZS 3000 clause 2.8 asks that switchboard labelling be permanent, legible for the life of the installation, and clear about which circuit and equipment each label identifies. Engraved traffolyte meets the durability and permanence requirements of that clause, because the text is cut into the material rather than printed onto it — there is no ink to fade and no film to lift.

Solar and battery — the one place testing is required

Solar goes further than AS/NZS 3000. The Clean Energy Council’s Advice on Labelling (Version 2, June 2023) requires any label exposed to direct sunlight to be UV resistant, demonstrated by passing IEC 60068-2-5:2018 — a 720-hour accelerated weathering test.

Section 3.1.1 of that document carries an exception: it does not apply to markings that are physically engraved, embossed or etched with durable markings. Engraving is exempt because the marking is the material — there is no printed surface to fade.

The practical difference: a printed or vinyl label in direct sun needs that test report to show it meets the requirement. An engraved one doesn’t. If your supplier can’t produce the report, you can’t demonstrate the label complies.

What we will not tell you

  • ·That the material is “certified” or “approved”. There is no certification scheme for engraving laminate and no inspector approval scheme for labels. A supplier using those words is selling you a word.
  • ·That a label makes an installation compliant. Compliance is the installation, the documentation and the person who signed it — a label is one durable part of that.
  • ·What your board should say. Josh holds an electrical licence and is happy to talk it through, but the wording call belongs to whoever is responsible for the job.

Common questions

Quick answers.

How long do traffolyte labels take to arrive in Hobart?

Production takes 1–3 business days, then tracked standard post reaches Hobart in 4–6 business days. Express post cuts transit to 2–3 business days when labels need to make a refit or handover window.

Is there a traffolyte engraver in Hobart?

Hobart engraving is mostly trophy and giftware work — there is no dedicated industrial traffolyte specialist in the city, so switchboard labels usually come across from the mainland. We supply Hobart direct: designed online with instant pricing, engraved to order with no minimum, and shipped tracked to your door.

Where are the labels made?

Every label is laser engraved to order in our Townsville, Queensland workshop by a licensed electrician, then quality-checked and shipped tracked to Hobart. No outsourcing, no drop-shipping.

Is there a minimum order?

No. One replacement label for a Hobart switchboard costs a few dollars plus postage — or send a thousand-line schedule. Same designer, same engraving either way.

How do I order?

Use the online Label Designer to build and price your labels instantly, or send a label list, photo, or drawing through Quick Quote for a same-day-priced quote.
